Five of the best sports-touring helmets

4 Feb 2019
Updated: 28 Jul 2023 Sports-touring helmets offer the best of both worlds and these five could all become your new riding companion.

If you want a helmet with sporty style but touring comfort and features, one of these lids could be your best friend.

They’re all sporty but not racey, and all have a handy dropdown sun visor for flexibility when out on longer trips.

Most of the helmets in this list cost over £200 so if you’re a little more money-conscious, check out our guide to sports-touring helmets under £200.

Shoei GT Air 2

The Shoei GT Air 2 improves on the GT Air with a host of advancements, including enhanced noise-reduction technology, and a new first-position visor opening for improved airflow and defogging. Both of these changes have been noticed and praised by Sportsbikeshop customers, with many describing the helmet as quiet and well vented. Customers also commended the helmet for the ease of use of the drop down sun visor, even with gloves on.

HJC’s premium-priced sports-touring option fares well with Sportsbikeshop customers, who praised its comfort and quietness, giving it an average of 4.9 stars from the first 246 reviews. Reviewers say the fit is quite snug, and many recommend going up a size from your usual. The helmet, which tips in on our scales at 1447g, comes with a Pinlock insert, drop-down sunvisor and multiple vents across the top of the head.

Shark Spartan Carbon

The carbon fibre and fibreglass construction means this lid is noticeably lightweight, with the Spartan Carbon tipping our scales at 1390g for a size medium. Sportsbikeshop customers love the helmet, giving it an average of 4.8 stars from the first 122 reviews. They also comment on how good it looks and the wide range of designs available, which were praised for giving a choice of bright and muted designs.

Shark S900 Dual Special Edition - Matt Black

The Shark S900 is one of the most reviewed helmets on the Sportsbikeshop website and achieves an impressive average of 4.76 stars from the first 423 reviews. It receives praise for its build quality, as well as a snug, true-to-size fit. Many customers buy a S900 for the second time after being so impressed with it the first time around. It is noted that the helmet can be a little loud at motorway speeds, so reviewers recommend wearing earplugs.

AGV’s K3 is the first helmet that meets the new ECE 22.06 safety standard that has reached the number of reviews to earn a place in this list. It’s only been around since spring 2023 and it’s already picked up 19 customer reviews, earning an average rating of 4.8. It’s a plastic-shelled helmet with a sun visor and impressive comfort. When we reviewed it we found to be a very credible replacement for the extremely popular K3-SV.
